Patient Financing Options—Putting it All on the Table

We’ve all heard about “certain things” that are generally considered taboo to discuss with others (in varying degrees, of course!), such as politics, asking a woman about her natural hair color, and money.  In spite of the potential “squirm factor” that discussing money can elicit, we’re going to go out on a limb and put it on the table.  Although some surprises are wonderful, money-related ones typically aren’t—we believe that all patients should always be well-informed about all treatment and payment options.

There are a number of ways that patients choose to take care of their portion of dental treatment costs, including payment with cash, check, and debit/credit cards (a great opportunity to earn rewards points!).  We also work with CareCredit and Lending Club to offer payment plans to patients (with interest-free options available as well!).  The payment method patients elect may vary from time to time depending on the type of treatment and associated investment—some patients even will utilize a combination of available options.

Time has shown that dental issues don’t necessarily wait to arise until it’s convenient, whether financially or with your schedule—they are notorious for popping up, for example, around the same time that you’re headed out of town, the same time that your car needs service, property taxes are due, and whatever else Murphy can throw your way.  The urgency of dental treatment varies from patient to patient (even from tooth to tooth!) and knowing that no-interest payment options are available, especially for those “just in case” times, can be a huge relief to patients.


We work with three patient financing companies for several reasons:

  • Although the plans available are generally similar, there are some differences in terms of length of the promotional period by the company, and with regards to plans offered for select types of treatment.
  • Some patients may be referred to a specialist for components of their dental treatment plan, and may be able to utilize financing options at those offices.  Signing up with a financing company that can be utilized at the specialist’s office as well as our office can help streamline things for patients.
  • We realize that some patients may already have accounts with any of these companies, and the convenience of being able to utilize an existing account as opposed to opening a new one is just another way to ensure a seamless treatment process for our patients.
